You may have heard last week the U.S. Supreme Court made it easier for the President to fire the head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a watchdog agency created after the 2008 financial crisis to protect consumers from predatory lenders, unfair debt collectors, and other violations of federal consumer financial law.
But did you know that South Carolina has its own consumer protections?
For example, South Carolina has its own Unfair Trade Practices Act which protects consumers from all kinds of unfair and deceptive acts and methods of competition. There are various penalties for willful violations. Anyone who suffers a loss as a result of the use of an unfair or deceptive method or practice can bring a lawsuit and seek proper damages.
If you feel like you have been the victim of unfair trade practices or debt collection practices, Kahn Law Firm may be able to help.
